Order Surge Busters for Your Tanks Today
Surge Buster Models
The number of Surge Busters required in a tank is built around the following information:
- How large is the tank opening
- What is the maximum gallon/liter capacity of the tank
- What is the heaviest per-gallon weight of the liquid you will be transporting
- Will the liquid be compatible with polypropylene
We answer all of those questions here.
The larger Surge Busters can manage more energy than the smaller ones, so it is more economical to put the largest Surge Busters into a tank that will physically fit. It's also good to remember that even though we are eliminating the energy of a certain amount of gallons, those gallons are moving through the space of the container. Surge Busters have to control all of the space, regardless of how many gallons are being transported.
Let's begin by learning about the various sizes of Surge Busters that are available.
| Model | Disc Diameter | Assembled Length | Tank Opening |
|---|---|---|---|
| SB815 | 15" | 27" | Large |
| SB807 | 7" | 28" | Medium |
| SB804 | 4" | 18" | Small |
| SB802 | 2" | 13" | Smaller |
| SBMini | 1.75" | 2.5" | Smallest |
Ordering and Packaging
The last two digits in the item number indicate the size of the opening that model fits through, though they can be manipulated to fit through slightly smaller openings. SB807 and SB815 orders come in two separate packages (paddles, and rings/fasteners); SB804 and SBMini orders come in a single package.

Common Questions
What tanks and liquids is it compatible with?
Virtually any tank shape and most liquids, fuel, chemicals, and water, hauled at atmospheric pressure. Not compatible with anhydrous ammonia, other pressurized cargo, or automotive gasoline. See the full polypropylene compatibility chart for specific chemicals.
Does installation require welding or tank modification?
No. Surge Busters drop in through the existing tank access port. No welding, no modification, no special tools.
Can Surge Busters be used in a tank that already has welded-in baffles?
Yes. Size your order as if the welded baffles aren't there. Surge Busters work on the science of surge force elimination, not surge force transfer, so the number you need is based on the tank's full capacity and liquid weight, not reduced by whatever baffles are already installed.
